WIEN MUSEUM NEU extension
Status:COMPETITION
Location:WIEN, AUSTRIA
Year:2015
Area:9 000
Client:WIEN MUSEUM PROJEKT GMBH

For the WIEN MUSEUM NEU extension we aimed to creating a new identity  in a very complex heritage context while also defining a coherent public urban space that will function together.
The Wien Museum Neu extension will be built on the northern part of the Resselpark, adjacent to the existing tram line and Karlsplatz boulevard.
The new Museum will be a one 6m floor high translucent volume, 320m long and elevated 10 meters above the ground, in order to define an enclosed space for the Resselpark and to form a promenade along the Karlsplatz boulevard.
The existing Building will be conserved as the main access point and vertical circulation axis with a 14m high central space that can function as an outstanding exhibition area with special projects, like Monumenta in Paris, developed especially for the space
All the Permanent exhibition area and the Temporary exhibition room A will be placed on the second floor in the 320 m long extension proposed. The new exhibition spaces will be perfectly adapted to museum and exhibition requirements (special light, humidity and temperature) and will have a 12 m room width perfect for organizing multiple exhibiting layouts.
